Finding the Queen

It is not always necessary to visually "see" the queen and the evidence of eggs and larvae in the hive can usually be taken as a positive indication that the queen is somewhere around - although probably being elusive!  In this section, we document some of the methods used to locate an elusive queen.

Visual Inspection

This is the "normal" method for locating a queen.  The queen can often be found on the "darkside" of a frame.

Walking The Plank

In this method, the bees are evicted from their brood box and allowed to enter a new brood box.
